WHAT NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT BEING PREGNANT WITH A BABY

If you would try and find out about pregnancy, whether on the internet or asking around; you would find out about the signs of pregnancy (how you know you are pregnant), symptoms, the discomforts, weight gain, skin and hair changes and all that comes with being pregnant. The older women will start giving you the old age tales and about what not to eat or do when you are pregnant. My mother –in-law says an expectant mother should not drink too much water it will make the baby’s head soft or eat eggs as they will block the birth canal.

We all know by now about a missed period as the first sign, peeing a lot as the uterus grows, vomiting (better known as morning sickness), darkening nipples and the undeniable linea  nigra line that is from the naval and crosses the belly button.

There are some things no one who’s been pregnant ever told me. Something like the baby moving inside your womb. This is the most exciting and miraculous thing that happens in a woman’s body. For me the feeling beats lovemaking however sadly it’s a feeling one cannot share with her husband. The only thing hubby can do is touch, watch and ask how it feels. This is the evidence of God’s miracle work. Seeing your stomach move and change shape as the baby moves from one side to another or as the baby turns is amazing. This is what confirms that you are now pregnant.

The baby reacts to your touches on your tummy, the sound around you and when you eat. The baby also has active and passive moments. My baby wiggles and moves more when I am in bed. One minute the baby gives a kick. The next it feels like the baby is somersaulting and at times the baby wiggles and shakes. This experience kind of seals the truth about your pregnancy as well as it makes it feel like the baby is already there though you can’t even touch the baby yet.

There are so many things that you do not really hear women discuss over coffee about being pregnant. The desire to make love is not as before pregnancy. I always heard that the hormones intensify the desire in women. I was feeling more like a celibate person than a married woman desiring her marital rights. Actually I felt more broody than sexy. Lacking the desire bothered me so much I thought we are like a very old couple while we married for less than a year. My hubby and I were more interested in my changing body than in undressing each other. This is where I saw the power of waiting for sex till after marriage and being prayerful.

Pregnancy is the most amazing thing God does. A human being formed inside another human. I thank God for this beautiful miracle.
